The Annascaul to Camp walk starts from Camp. It is a Moderate Walk with easy Elevations. You will rise into the valley below Cathair Con Rí. As you climb, you will come to a fort where you will get a spectacular view of Tralee Bay and even see Ballybunion in the distance

You will descend towards the Emlagh River which runs along the river bed fault line. This was created over 390 million years ago. South west of here on the left is Emlagh Hill . In the 1920’s a fire raged on it’s slopes for six weeks and destroyed the fragile soil and shattered the rock. It still seems like little recovery has been made since

Cross the road at the next junction and follow a rough track ascending slightly and once you crest the hill, facing west, a panoramic view opens up to Castlemaine harbour, Inch strand and the Iveragh Peninsula (Leithinis Uibh Ráthaigh) are visible. Inch (Inse) is rich in historical artefacts and a botanists dream-scenes They filmed Playboy of the Western World and Ryan’s Daughter here. Hiking west brings you inland with amazing views spreading before you and giving you a glimpse of Anascaul lake (loch Abhainn an Scáil). A long ‘Roman’ road leads you down to the quaint village of Anascaul (Abhainn an Seil)
