Most of the settlement in Annascaul was in Ballinacourty and Ballyvoher. History of Annascaul and the Dingle Peninsula will examine how the population has changed down through the the times where there was almost 5,000 people livere in Ballyvoher and Ballinacopurty but the numbers today are almost at 30% of that figure.
The village over 200- 250 years ago was effectively not here. Many of the roads we see today were not here in before 1800 wher the mail road was a new road that came from Lougher. This development through the village came in 1831 where we will discuss the importance of the mail roads to the economic development of the roads and their importance to the peninsula.
The first settlement occured at te bottom part of the village in the 1760s and the middle part of the village started in 1830s and 1840s onwards. Some of our research will look at Richard Griffin in Listowel anmd how the area of North Kerry developed with the expansion of the road network.
You can purchase an evening meal afterwards at Aido’s Annascaul Cafe and Pottery
